St. Mary’s is responsible for $8,000 of the $45,000 the project requires. We have already accumulated $5,000 of our share, so please be generous and help us reach our goal! Envelopes will be available at the display.

The Catholic House Build will begin with the Ground Breaking on September 6th and end with the House Blessing on October 24th. Volunteers are needed to assist with various aspects of the Build. Please contact Art Taylor, 474-2116, Jeff Newell, 474-5758 or Louanne Holladay, 474-8053 if you would like to give us a hand.

Haiti Rummage Sale

On Saturday, August 16th, 2008, the St Mary Haiti Mission will be having a Rummage Sale in the lower parking lot here at St Mary on Columbia Street.  If you have any large items of furniture, appliances, bikes that you would like to donate now while you are spring and summer cleaning, please contact Helen Hession at h.hession@comcast.net or 765-477-6004.  These items must be in good working, clean condition.  Between now and the 1st of August we will only be taking in large items that need stored.  Please remember if the item is in working condition, but slightly used and someone you know might use it, we would be happy to get the item(s).  Thank you for your help.

What's New In The Parish

International Friendship Opportunity

Members of St. Mary’s are invited to take part in a unique International Friendship opportunity. Nearly 80% of the approximately 500,000 international students studying in the U.S. will never step foot into an American home during their stay in our country. Close to 5,000 from more than 120 countries, are our neighbors, living and studying right here at Purdue University.

Purdue’s International Program (IFP) is seeking caring volunteers who are interested in befriending an international student. At mutually agreeable times throughout the year, the student and their volunteer get together for activities such as conversation, dinners, shopping, holiday celebrations, community activities and educational events. As a volunteer, you can make a truly significant contribution to the success of your student’s stay in America. Not only can the friendship you extend help alleviate a student’s homesickness and loneliness, but you can help him/her adjust to life in American culture. You will also find your new friend eager to share his/her culture with you! For more information, or to receive an application, please contact Karin Crum, Asst. Coord., International Friendship Program, 409-2683. Online sign-up is also available: http://www.iss.purdue.edu/SSL/IFP/join.cfm.

Support Vocations

A study, commissioned by the Knights of Columbus, revealed that 75% of Catholic young people who had seriously considered religious life felt they were never encouraged to pursue that goal.  Your encouragement may be all that’s needed.

A misconception among some Catholics is that the priest has an ideal job; he works one day each week, Sunday. They forget the other six days a week, where the priest works long and hard behind the scenes—visiting the ill, counseling troubled families, helping bury our loved ones, visiting school classes, etc. Often the job is exhausting and thankless, but always of vital importance.

The loving environment of a family draws forth an individual’s greatest talents and gifts.  We’ve come to realize that creating an atmosphere in which children can hear the Lord’s call is one of the most significant responsibilities resting on our shoulders as parents.  Parents, grandparents – do you encourage your children to develop their talents and gifts?  Do you encourage them to think of Church ministry as a possible life choice?

Interested in supporting vocations?  Contact Barbara at 474-9374.

Advertise Your Business in our Sunday Bulletin!

Your support will benefit St. Mary Parish and the Lafayette Catholic Schools.  Contact Art Blackburn our bulletin representative at the parish office, 742-4440 ext. 228.  Tell them you saw this on the website.

Rosary Before Masses

The rosary will be prayed every Sunday for the intention that our parishioners be good stewards of the many gifts that God has given to us and allowed us to have.  The rosary will be said before the 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Masses every Sunday.  The rosary will begin twenty five minutes before Mass begins at 7:05 a.m. and 10:35 a.m.  A designated leader will be assigned to lead the rosary and that person will have a portable microphone so that everyone can hear the leader.

Memorial Card Display Case

Funeral Holy Cards will be memorialized in the Memorial Card Display Case so that our parishioners will be able to pray for our loved ones.  If you have an immediate family member such as a grandparent, mother, father, child, sister, brother, brother-in-law who has passed away within the past year, please call Mary Shelton at 474-2559 or email: tootsshelton@webtv.net.

Remember a Loved One

Remember a loved one or recognize your family with a brick in the Diocesan Memorial Plaza. Forms are available in the literature rack or call the parish office at 742-4440.
