2010 Habitat for Humanity Catholic Build!
Since 2002, St. Mary Cathedral and the five other area Catholic churches have contributed toward creating homes for at least 15 families, both here and abroad! This year the Boots family, Karen and her teen-aged sons, Evan and Ben, will be partnering for their future home. You’re invited to join the build, whether volunteering or making a donation—the “Catholic Build” welcomes your help! Volunteers: Dan DeLaurentis (dan.delaurentis@gmail.com) . St. Mary Community Lunch to the Needy
Please consider making or providing a chicken casserole, salad, bread, or dessert to help us feed about 100 needy people a nourishing lunch.

Italian Fest!
Mark your calendars and plan to help out at this years’ Italian Fest. The Italian Fest is scheduled for September 24th & 25th. Volunteers are always needed. If you want to be part of the Italian Fest and have the time to volunteer, please call the parish office. It will be another wonderful time and all proceeds will go to work being done on the school building.
What's New In The Parish
Volunteer Afternoons at LUM
Lafayette Urban Ministry is in need of Volunteer receptionists to work one afternoon each week at the LUM Office, 420 N. 4th Street, Lafayette. Volunteers are responsible for greeting visitors, directing a multi-line telephone system and general office tasks. Positions are available for one or more afternoon(s) per week, or a minimum of twice per month. (we are flexible!) Applications are available on LUM webpage at www.lafayetteurbanministry.org, by emailing smohler@lafayetteurbanministry.org, or stopping by the office at 420 N. 4th St., Lafayette between 9 AM & 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.
You Could Make A New Friend!
Members of St. Mary’s are invited to participate in International Friendship at Purdue (IFP)! IFP is seeking volunteer families and individuals in our community to befriend an international student at Purdue. This is a great opportunity to form an amazing cross-cultural friendship! IFP matches new international students with American volunteers at the start of each semester. At mutually agreeable times the student and their volunteer get together for activities such as conversation, meals, shopping, holiday celebrations, community activities and educational events. You can truly make a significant contribution to the success of your international student’s stay in America. The friendship not only alleviates loneliness, but can also help him/her adjust to life in American culture and contribute to a successful academic career. Would You Like To Purchase A Key?
The music department at St. Mary’s has been given a unique opportunity to purchase the piano that was brought in for the installation of our new Bishop. We feel like this is an excellent opportunity to gift the parish with a beautiful and exquisite new instrument. Please take the time to view the piano in our worship space for two more weekends and consider buying one of 88 keys at $100 per key. Families may consider going together to purchase a key. Would You Like To Adopt-A-Spot?
Calling all gardeners! Did you know that parish volunteers keep our parish grounds looking so beautiful? We still have a few spots that need to be adopted. This would include pulling weeds, picking up trash, and minor trimming of bushes on your spot. This generous gift of time saves our parish expensive fees for this service. Knitters and Crochet'ers
If you are sitting at home thinking about using your skills as part of a ministry, please consider joining the members of Blessed Threads here at the Cathedral. We are a group of ladies who create prayer shawls, baby blankets and other items to help out others in our parish and community. We meet each month on the second Tuesday at 4 PM in the Bishop Gallagher Room. You are most welcome to come and see what we are about. Callout for Leaders to
Pray the Rosary
St. Mary is having a callout for anyone wishing to lead our parish in praying the Most Holy Rosary before all Masses (men and women). If you are interested, please call Lory Nettles at 765-538-2363 (home) or 260-668-6708 (cell) to let her know which Masses you are available to lead the rosary. We hope to have enough volunteers so that you would only be asked to lead once per month. Mass times: 4:30 Saturday, or 7:30, 9:00, 11:30 AM and 6:30 PM.

Haiti Website
The Haiti Committee is pleased to announce the official launching of its new website which can be found at either www.saintmaryhaiti.com or www.stmaryhaiti.com. There are many stories and photos from past trips to Pendus, projects completed as well as still under way in Pendus, maps, photos and bios of our “Friends in Haiti” and other general information about Haiti and the Pendus community. Information from the most recent trip is not yet included but will be shortly. We encourage you to visit the website and let us know what you think! Comments can be sent to jjnewell@aol.com.
Mass Intentions
Remember a loved one by having a Mass offered for them. Currently we are scheduling Mass intentions for 2009. If you would like to schedule a Mass, please visit Mary Ann in the Parish Office. Mass stipend: $10.00. We will try to honor special dates such as anniversaries or birthdays. We would appreciate Mass intentions.
Volunteers are needed to carry up the gifts. If you are interested in participating in this special privilege, please notify the ushers when you enter church.
We also need Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers, & Servers to help with the 6:30 PM Sunday Mass. Please call the Parish Office (742-4440) if you would like to join one of these ministries or if you currently serve in any of these ministries and are willing to be placed into a rotation for our new Mass.
Make Your Weekly Gift to St. Mary’s Automatically
Your gift may be made for any frequency: weekly, monthly or quarterly. Draws are made on the Monday after the applicable Sunday including the first Sunday of the month or quarter. Simply complete the ACH Enrollment form available in the literature rack in the gathering space or download it here and return it to the office or in the weekly offering. books and links to online resources about the Catholic faith. You can donate

Payment Now Available
Do you order SCRIP online or would you like to? You can now pay for your order at www.shopwithscrip.com using Great Lakes SCRIP Center’s new PrestoPay. You simply enter your checking account information one time in a secure environment. After the account is verified, you can choose to have your scrip payments electronically deducted from your checking account when you order. This is not a credit-card based system…it is simply an added convenience that eliminates the hassle of writing and delivering your check for your online order!
A study, commissioned by the Knights of Columbus, revealed that 75% of Catholic young people who had seriously considered religious life felt they were never encouraged to pursue that goal. Your encouragement may be all that’s needed.
A misconception among some Catholics is that the priest has an ideal job; he works one day each week, Sunday. They forget the other six days a week, where the priest works long and hard behind the scenes—visiting the ill, counseling troubled families, helping bury our loved ones, visiting school classes, etc. Often the job is exhausting and thankless, but always of vital importance.
The loving environment of a family draws forth an individual’s greatest talents and gifts. We’ve come to realize that creating an atmosphere in which children can hear the Lord’s call is one of the most significant responsibilities resting on our shoulders as parents. Parents, grandparents – do you encourage your children to develop their talents and gifts? Do you encourage them to think of Church ministry as a possible life choice?

Grade Boys!
You are…”Called to Duty!” A summer retreat sponsored by the Lafayette Diocese Vocations Office. The diocesan retreat will explore God’s call to courage, leadership and holiness through prayer and fraternity. It is open to all incoming 7th grade to outgoing 8th grade boys. Dates & Locations:

July 30-August 1—Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

YoungLife for Catholic High School students in Lafayette! Doesn’t matter where you go to high school!
